A new study by an immigration advocacy group shows that foreign-born inventors are responsible for most of the patents at the country's top 10 patent-generating universities.

The study by the Partnership for a New American Economy says people born outside of the U.S. were responsible for 76 percent of patents from the ten schools last year. In addition, all but 1 percent of their patents were in the areas of science, technology, engineering and math.

Ninety university presidents are joining the group in calling for a way to allow top international students to stay in the U.S. after graduation.
